The English for Health Professionals: Nurses course is designed for nurses who wish to improve their spoken communication skills - pronunciation, accuracy and appropriate language - for communicating with patients, their families and other health professionals.
English for Health Professionals: Nurses has six units based on a variety of hospital situations which are demonstrated via video.
Each unit also provides listening exercises and a range of language, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary exercises and fact sheets.
English for Health Professionals: Nurses has been developed by NSW AMES in collaboration with the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Health, University of Technology Sydney.

Watch a morning shift handover. Learn the vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar you need to understand a spoken handover.
Watch nurses doing day-to-day nursing tasks. Learn the English you need to explain to a patient what you are doing and why you are doing it.
Watch nurses working together in a healthcare team. Learn the English you need to chat to other nurses, ask for advice and understand the questions asked in an assessment.
Watch nurses help an upset patient, provide lifestyle counselling and respond to a patient complaint. Learn the English you need to listen actively, respond appropriately and give advice in an informal way.
Watch nurses speak to another health professional and a patient’s relative. Learn the English you need to talk about patients’ medical conditions and to request help by phone.
Watch an afternoon shift handover. Learn to prepare a handover using the language and skills learned in the course.
